Neighborhood Family Support Initiatives

During the 2007-08 school year, Heights Parent Center will bring family literacy and support programs to the three elementary schools - Oxford, Boulevard, and Noble. HPC staff, called Family Liaisons, will work directly in the school to reach out to parents. The Family Liaisons work with parents as supportive peers. Their role is to make connections with families, encourage their participation in school events and in HPC offerings, and help them connect with outside community resources so that the families are strengthened from within and through the creation of a network of support in their schools, neighborhood and community. A variety of programs which focus on family literacy and parenting skills will be offered at each of the schools during the school year.

Our Goals: Provide support to parents so that their children will be successful in school.

Help families increase their children's school readiness and reading skills.

Provide elementary school parents opportunities to get to know and gain support from each other.

Provide tutoring and support to students in school.

Host weekly and monthly family events for parents and their young children which promote and improve family literacy.
