Carolyn Grossman Award

About the Award

The Carolyn Grossman Award for Extraordinary Commitment to Families and Children

Purpose:

The Carolyn Grossman Award honors individuals who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to strengthening families and preparing young children for success in school and in life. Award recipients all share the conviction that strong families, communities and parenting skills build strong children.

The Carolyn Grossman Award pays tribute to the vision of the founders of Heights Parent Center: that additional resources are needed to educate parents, provide support and help them help their children be successful in school. As a longtime kindergarten teacher at Taylor Elementary School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Carolyn found that parents have the potential to make an enormous difference in their child’s ability to learn and grow. Recognizing that parents often need support in preparing their young children physically, intellectually and emotionally to learn in school, Carolyn Grossman and Barbara Soules co-founded Heights Parent Center in 1975. Carolyn’s children established this award in her honor in April 2003.

The Annual Carolyn Grossman award winner will receive the “CG,” a cast glass sculptural figure depicting parent and child, designed by Carolyn’s daughter, Susan Grossman. A contribution of $100 from the award fund will be made in the winner’s name to a charitable organization, of the award recipient’s choice, that serves families or children.
