FLT is a comprehensive family literacy network that provides the supports and educational opportunities that will help a family break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and under-education. The program connects existing providers of the four components of family literacy. These free services include adult education (i.e. GED preparation classes), early childhood services (i.e. ELI child care centers), parenting education including job readiness skills, and interactive activities for parents and their children. In addition, participating families will also receive case management services, life and job skills training and referral to community social services as needed. Families eligible for the Families Learning Together program must be TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) eligible, reside in Cuyahoga County, have at least one adult in need of literacy services, and have at least one child under 5 years of age. Heights Parent Center, in partnership with The Literacy Cooperative of Greater Cleveland, has received financial support from the Board of Cuyahoga County Commissioners to provide these family literacy services.
